How to FREEZE FRAME in Premiere Pro

https://youtu.be/vhSGFulieTU#freezeframe#howtocreatefreezeframeeffect#premiereprotutorial#freezeframeinpremierepro

Hi! The name of our lesson says for itself, so you've already guessed what we'll do this week. Basically, creating a Freeze Frame Effect is making some parts of your video (or the whole video) “freeze” in the particular moment. It can be especially useful if you work with animated titles.

Add a video to Timeline

First, let's add a video we'll use in our work. We'll take one from EasyEdit Viewer extension which will help you to solve any task in your editing routine. There's also a convenient function for searching and adding media materials from popular resources, like Assets tab with Gif's, images and videos. By using the search, we'll find the material of interest to us. When you've found what you need simply import it to your Timeline by clicking on it.Choose the point where your effect begins. Since there are black areas on the top of the video you need to enlarge it.

Adding and adjusting the video

Frame selection

Now we cut the video in the place where the effect starts. Right click on this area and choose Add Frame Hold. We captured this art of the video in one frame. Hold the option key and drag the video above, to the top layer.

Adding frame hold

Draw a mask to Freeze Frame

Now in this layer select the brush in the Opacity section and put a mask on the person/object you need. After this we can set the starting points of the animation by clicking on this clock to raise the Scale and Position items.

Put a mask on your object

Now we go to the last frame and choose what position the person/object should be in. Set Mask Feather to 0. This animation is not linear or monotonous, we will change it's dynamics. Selet your ending points and right click to Temporal Interpolation>Ease In. We'll do the same with our first points except choosing Easy Out this time. Congratulations, we've created animation dynamics!

Setting your editing points

Creating the backgroud

Now let's work with the background. We can start from our Gausian Blur effect. In this case i'll put the blurriness value to 70 - that would be enough to our video. Choose Repeat Edge Pixels. Select Black&White effect. We immediately give the background a black and white look. If you want to make the background of a different color, go to the Color Tab and by using these parameters, apply any desired color.

Background settings

Currently, we've applied a black and white background. Select the top layer and right click Nest. Select this layer and add an effect to it.

Nesting the sequences

Radial shadow

We've got a shadow from our character. In the effect setting we can choose any color or opacity. Now we can set the size and position to get the outline around the character. This will separate it from the backgroud and add some volume. Let's move our layer on top.

Shadow settings

Working with overlay

We considered picking some overlays from the internet like these background plain patterns. Place your overlay layer under the character layer. Right click and choose Scale to frame size.Let's apply the Tint effect to it. This column gives us the choice of colors for our background.

Scaling the frame size

Next - add the color key effect and by using the eyedropper select the background color. Next settings allow you to remove artefacts if they appear. Now we can position the element in the frame. We animated the cyclist so that he approaches us in the frame. And this layer can be animated in the opposite direction so from a large size it decreases. Scale option will add volume to our frame. So let's give the same animation dynamics. Repeat applying Easy In and Easy Out here and…let's add some text!

Creating animated titles

In order to save our time while creating cool animated titles, it's always better to use pre-made templates. You can choose a suitable option from a big choice of titles in our packs, like Hyper. Just select and click to the one you like!Place the text layer between the character layer and the picture. Make sure they're aligned correctly. Let's go to the motion column and place it into our frame. For more precise settings, return to the Essential Graphics tab. Here you can change the text, select and resize the font, change the colors of elements and more.

Essential Graphics tab settings

Almost done! Let's merge all the layers in Nest and render to reproduce the section without freezing. In the meantime, you can subscribe to our channel, so all future tutorials and announces are yours😍

Learn how to work in After EffectsPremiere Pro and many more. After the rendering ends you can normally view the fragment and understand what is worth changing. For examle, we want the text to appear later. We've entered the Nest sequence and set the moment at which it's animation will begin.

Aligning the text layer to make it appear later

Stitching frames

To make a smooth transition between video and effect use Dip to Black transition. Place it first in the center of your sequence, then manually correct it to the way it looks better.

Adjusting Dip to Black transition

Any effect can be accompanied by music. Pick the tune you want to and put it in the place where it was glued:

Adding music layer

Finally, let's render and see the result! We liked it😊

Repeat the actions, change or add elements and we know that your effect will look amazing!

Good luck, fellow editor!
