Here’s the result you’ll achieve:
Let’s start!

You can also download this Bitmap Template from EasyEdit Stock.
Use a pattern we linked here.
Create a new composition out of it.
Add a RepeTile effect to it. Set the Expand settings as in the example.
Change the Quality and Sampling mode.
Create a new comp with the footage you’d like to apply the bitmap effect to.
Drag a footage comp to a new comp and rename it into a main comp.
Change the Quality and Sampling mode of the pattern comp and reduce its opacity.
Create a new Adjustment layer and add a Mosaic effect to it.
Check the sharp colors.
Add a Slider Control effect and add a “transform.scale” expression.
Parent the parameter to the slider.
Get back to the Mosaic effect and add a “this comp width” expression to the horizontal blocks parameter. Parent this parameter to the slider control as well.
Now add this expression to the vertical blocks parameter and parent it to the slider.
Now add an expression we used in the example to the slider parameter. Parent it to the slider.
Now, that all of our parameters are interlinked, we can customize the slider and change the effect values.
You can decrease the Posterize level amount, which also interlinks with the slider now. You can also get inside the footage comp and add a tint effect to it, if needed.
Your customizable Bitmap effect is ready!
Now you can easily create the same CRT text effect and experiment to make it different!
